Brief History
Department of Business Administration (DBA) was established as the first DBA in eastern Taiwan in 1994.  The 2-years BA program began in 1996, followed by the addition of same program of continuing education division in 1996, a 2-year technical college program in 1999, a 4-year technical college program in 2001, and a 2-year on-the-job training program in 2008, and in 2013 at Yuli town as well, master's program in logistics and marketing management was established in 2011, making us a fully developed academic unit to provide an ideal place for students to pursue their academic knowledge in Hualien.

 

Education Approach and Department Mission

2.1. Education Approach

The Department encourages the establishment of mutual relationships between the faculty and students. Not only the training of professional knowledge developed, but the abilities of organizing and presentation are also emphasized. The Department usually holds seminars to examine and to strengthen the applicability of theories.

 

2.2. Department Mission

Research Focus:

The DBA provides the required courses on human resource management, financial management, operations management, marketing management, information management, and micro-business establishment. The DBA enforces e-commerce and e-management courses and focuses on the research of local small business management. The DBA also processes many cases of industry-academy cooperation. The students will experience real business. Besides, the DBA offers a program leading to Bachelor of Business Administration to accumulate professional knowledge to cultivate future business leaders with innovative thinking, integrity, and global perspective.

 

CURRICULUM

3 .1 Introduction to Courses
The standards set up by the Ministry of Education, the Department has professional courses, core courses and required courses, such as human resource management, financial management, operations management, marketing management, information management, e-commerce and e-management courses.  

 

3.1 General Education courses:

English Subjects, Chinese Subjects, Artistic Subjects, Social Sciences.

 

3.2  Basic courses:

Economics, Accounting, Statistics, Business Mathematics, The Principle of Management…etc.

 

3.3  Core courses:

Human Resource Management, Financial Management, Operations Management, Marketing Management, Information Management, Micro-business Establishment, E-commerce, E-management courses, Business Ethics, Project Management…etc.

 

Also the DBA focuses on three fields of Specialization of Marketing Subjects, Financial Subjects, and Management Subjects providing students a variety of advanced courses to accumulate professional knowledge to cultivate future business leaders with innovative thinking, integrity, and global perspective.

 

Students at DBA

The DBA encourages students to actively participate in practical business administration and student clubs, so that they can be familiar with planning, execution and management of a program, as well as develop confidence and professional knowledge.

In order to bring up students’ outstanding performance, the education goals of DBA are shown as below:

1. To cultivate management experts who are good at both theory and practice.

2.     To assist students to obtain professionals certificates about business administration.

3. To create an atmosphere on which both advanced study and employment are stressed.

4. To strengthen cooperation between enterprises and departments, so the students may work for those enterprises after graduation or do the part-time job in summertime to improve their practical experience.

 

Teaching & Research Feature

4.1. Features        
The goals are to meet the need of national economic and trade policies, and to cultivate qualified professionals for the modern business environment. The Department encourages students to actively participate in practical business administration and student clubs, so that they can be familiar with planning, execution and management of a program, as well as develop confidence and professional knowledge.

The main teaching and research focus of the department are developing based on the vision "Global Perspective," "Professionalism & Innovation," and "Integrity & Pragmatism. The emphasis is to come up with solutions to assist all kinds of business in solving problems regarding technology innovation, knowledge innovation, organization development, and strategy establishment while marching forward to globalized enterprises.

 

4.2. The key points of training

5. Professional Faculty

We recruit new faculty members with diversified expertise to strengthen students’ professional knowledge.

 

6. Industry cooperation 

The main function of the industry cooperation is to build up the cooperative relationship among department, enterprises and governments for the purpose of promoting academic exchanges.

 

6.1. Targets of Internship & Career Counseling

1. To help the teachers to conduct special case studies and provide professional advices for government and public& private sectors.

2. To strengthen cooperation between enterprises and departments, the students may choose to work for those enterprises after graduation or summer tours to enhance their practical experience and mutual understanding.

3. To integrate department resources and enhance the technical services , counseling and technical transfer among enterprises, governments and departments.

 4. To associate the relationship among students, public & private enterprises.

 

6.2. Targets of Industry-Academia cooperation

1. To increase the relationship and cooperation between the enterprises and departments.

2. To build “service window”, providing the technical services and consultations.

3. To negotiate and manage the interaction of technology cooperation.

4. To combine the complementary effects between professional education and technical cooperation.

 

Future prospects

1. By the method of comprehensive E-teaching to promote the teaching effectiveness.

2. To strengthen the function of websites, applying to wanted AD Job-seeking, and extension education.

3. To improve the Industry-Academia cooperation.

4. Providing the materials and information by networks to assist students for career planning and counseling.
